We work as a team, and honestly, in this digital age, the fact that we are in different countries really doesn’t matter. I’ve never looked back and wished I had hired a VA sooner.
It’s also nice that we can support other women who aren’t in a position to go out and get full-time work.
As a first-class nutritionist and founder of Health & Vitality, Liza Rowan was convinced that she didn't need a virtual assistant. But what changed her mind? Read our interview with her below!
What was the obstacle that would have prevented you from hiring a VA?
To be honest, I wasn’t convinced that I needed one - purely because I thought she would provide only administration services, whereas I needed help with Digitial Marketing, Social Media Management, and Website Management. I also wasn’t sure whether the physical distance would facilitate productive working relations, but this has certainly proved not to be the case.
What did you find as a result of hiring a VA?
Now I don’t know how I ever survived without one! I did not think it possible that a VA would have the skill set that I totally lack. I am learning so much about social media and digital marketing from my VA, Camille, and I am so impressed with the level of her knowledge and skills. It’s a relationship based on trust and understanding, and of course, there must be give-and-take to allow for flexibility from both sides.
What are the other benefits of hiring a VA?
1. Having someone there constantly who wants you to succeed, and who shares in all the moments of success, and frustration.
2. Synergy - we bounce things off each other to come up with a better solution/strategy than either of us would have managed alone.
3. You feel you’re always part of a team, which makes both the great and not so great days much better.
Would you recommend hiring a VA through Connected Women? If so, why?
Absolutely - Gina has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in general but also has great intuition, so she can quickly assess any gap in skills - both technical and personal. As I said, I didn’t think a VA would be of benefit to me, whereas Gina could clearly see that it would be. What’s great is that there’s a no-obligation 2 week trial period, so you really have nothing to lose by trying.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
I’ve never looked back and wished I had hired a VA sooner, so even if you don’t think you need a VA, it is worth trialing working with one for a while. There are so many aspects to having your own business, and no one person can possibly have all the required skills - so trust that other educated ladies can and want to assist, and they also want to learn from you.
It’s also nice that we can support other women who aren’t in a position to go out and get full-time work due to personal or family circumstances. For example, Camille wanted to be at home with her 1.5-year old and has just this week given birth to a baby boy. She loves being able to use her qualification and skills, while still being at home with her kids. I don’t need her to work full-time, but certainly need her skills to assist in many areas of my business.
